PCDC holds and participates in several annual events to reach out to the community, to enrich our clients experiences, and to help our organization flourish.
Special Olympics is a international competition where anyone and everyone is accepted regardless of ability or disability. Our clients compete against neighboring counties in several different competitions such as: bowling, track and field, and relay.
The Handicapable Rodeo is an event where our clients can be cowboys and cowgirls for the day. They’re able to go on an old fashion hay ride, rope, run barrels, and get their face painted all while dancing to some of their favorite music.
Talimena 13.1 run and relay
This race formerly called the Rich Mountain Classic, was first run in 1986 and continued through 1990, using the Janssen Park to the Queen Wilhelmina Lodge race route. In 1991, the “Classic” was renamed the Talimena Drive ½ Marathon and was run from the lodge to near the state line and back. The Talimena Drive is called the “scenic drive” for a reason as the drive from Mena to the State Park and Lodge is beautiful with many breathtaking views and overlooks.
“Let your Light shine” Special needs prom
The Special Needs Prom is one of the most favored events of the year. Special needs people from 14 and up come together from all over Polk County to attend this event. Our clients get to have fun while dancing, laughing, and being themselves.
